Straddle Carrier Information and Visualisation System (SC-Info)
|
SC-Info is a prototype to visualise the current position of straddle carriers in a container terminal. Optional additional information of straddle carriers can be displayed.
|
|
Online visualisation
|
Each container terminal uses a container administration system. If the container administration system gets the current straddle carrier position by a locating system (e.g. a Global Positioning System – GPS) these position data can be used by SC-Info to visualise the straddle carrier online. |
|
The visualisation system supports the following functions:
- In a selection dialogue the straddle carriers to be shown are ticked, the other straddle carriers are hidden.
- The user can find a certain straddle carrier.
- In a property window can be displayed online information about each straddle carrier optional.
- In an information window can be displayed the complete message flow (generated by the locating processor) in a list optional.
- Zoom in a part of the terminal to get a more detailed view.
|
Property window
|
For each straddle carrier a window with straddle carrier properties regarding the current job can be displayed. |
- Velocity: The current velocity of the straddle carrier
- Maximum velocity: The maximum velocity during the current job
- Location: Current position in the terminal if available from the locating system
- Timeout: The last signal from the straddle carrier in seconds
- Distance: Milage in metres during the current job
- Container: Container number
- Container type: Size of the container
- Duration: Time in hh:mm:ss during the current job
- Standing time: Holding time of the straddle carrier during the current job
|
|
|
Information windows
|
The system SC-Info is provided by information like
- Job data: The yard control system sends information about the job such as container information and start and target position of the container. The job data are displayed in the property window.
- Position message: Via the locating processor each straddle carrier send its current position in constant intervals.
- Container slot message: The Straddle carrier has picked up respective put down a container and the container slot position is known to the system.
- No container slot message: The Straddle carrier has picked up respective put down a container but the container slot position is unknown to the system.
The position messages are listed in a table. The following figure shows an example of the log file “position messages”: |

Evaluation
|
The evaluation presents information in lists and/or diagrams such as number of handled container, average time per move, number of restacks, time for restacking, average travel speed, idle and waiting times, distances, utilisation of resources.
