Such wide ranging improvement may be difficult to obtain in the transport world. The approach in Wisdom will be the bottom-up development of the major functionality in close co-operation with transport operators. The pilots will be more ore less selfcontaining within the WISDOM concepts and concentrate on different aspects and solutions. In the pilots existing systems, procedures, standards and technologies will be used to continue on the state of the art and to avoid reinventing. The result will be an open technical and functional environment to allow the users to be connected with a minimum of internal changes.
The focus of the pilot in Rotterdam pilot is on an integrated transport chain, the emphasis in the Bremen/Hamburg pilot is on achieving interconnectivity in the port area. Both pilots include the use of real time data to provide information for planning procedures. Positioning data, collected from tracking systems, is one of the innovative technologies available that the project will examine for integration.
