The Wisdom project is mainly focused on the two pilots, Rotterdam en Bremen/Hamburg and on the supporting activities. One of the supporting activities is the architecture. In this project the architecture is the broad description of the approach of both pilots, aiming for a good understanding of the pilots and as a startingpoint for the architecture for the generic Wisdom system, to be developed in Wisdom-2. The architecture describes three aspects: the transport control functions, the datasharing principles and the datamodel.
In the transport control is defined which control functions are needed to get the transport going. The relation between the physical operations and the control functions is explained together with the responsibilities and the checkpoints. It also describes which functions are included in the pilots.
In the datasharing is explained what datasharing means and how it can be implemented: in a physical and in a logical way. In the physical datasharing (applied in the Rotterdam pilot) a common database is used to harmonize the data. In the logical datasharing (Bremen/Hamburg pilot) the existing user databases are used for harmonization.
In the datamodeling the basic EDI knowledge was used as starting point of both pilots. The Rotterdam pilot uses a structure based on the physical operations in the transport. The Bremen/Hamburg pilot uses a structure based on the EDI messages.
In this project the architecture ends with a view how harmonization of both architectures could be done.
