Danube ports in the digital age – conference in Vienna points out challenges and opportunities

Nowadays, digitalisation is essential for port operators. However, it is often unclear what "digital" means for organisations and the industry. On 11th April, the “Port Digitalisation Conference” in Vienna was dedicated to this topic to inform decision-makers at the Danube ports about opportunities and challenges associated with the ongoing digitalisation process.

ISL expert Arne Gehlhaar at the lecture in Vienna

ISL expert Arne Gehlhaar gave insights into ongoing research projects to illustrate how modern communication technologies can help to sustainably optimise the processes of inland ports. His presentation "Smart services for inland ports and IWT – Two case studies from the projects SELIS and Binntelligent met with lively interest of the conference guests.

The event was opened by Manfred Seitz, General Secretary at Pro Danube International

The event in the Austrian capital was organised by the "Danube Ports Network" within the framework of the "Interreg Danube Transnational Programme. The goal was to provide a platform for exchanging experiences and concepts regarding digital activities and thereby reduce uncertainty of decision makers.
