Global Container Port Handling increased by about 6%

In February 2019, the ISL continues the much acclaimed series "ISL Shipping Statistics and Market Review" with the current issue. Each issue of the SSMR contains an "ISL Market Review" with leading indicators to reflect the global development of maritime markets continuously and at the pulse of time:


For the current issue, ISL's experts have been examining the development of global port throughput and world trade. It comes to the conclusion of a “stable growth with dark clouds in sight “, as the first half of the current decade was affected by shrinking growth rates, both in total cargo traffic as well as in container traffic. Despite that, total cargo throughput of the nearly 450 ports covered by ISL’s Port Data Base grew by 4.7% in 2017. Focussing on container handling, a growth of 6% was observed.
