Global Monitoring for Environment and Safety

GMES examines how approaches of Supply Chain Event Management (SCEM) can be transferred from logistics to security matters. The aim of the project from the area Auto ID and Security in Container Transport is to develop a demonstrator and to show how intermodal transportation can be made safer using software. The demonstrator "Security Event Manager" shall receive data from a disposition system to process the reported security incidents during the transportation process and to calculate a risk factor on this basis. Within the project, safety-related events are determined first. Then, it is analyzed how to generate these events automatically (e.g. by using GPS / Galileo and RFID). According to the approaches of SCEM, subsequently, a demonstrator is developed to handle the events and to report them proactively. Workshops with practitioners as well as presentations at scientific conferences have given additional impulses from practice to GMES. The demonstrator is also available for other projects such as INTEGRITY.
