Hinterland strategy for the port of Antwerp: market analysis and outlook

The port of Antwerp is currently investigating the potential for container transports between Antwerp and the regions of middle and eastern Europe, under consideration of the continental and hinterland transport. To this end, those industrial regions with the strongest revenue were first identified using data from the North European Container Traffic Model,, based on which the entire container revenue of the hinterland was estimated. In cooperation with the logistics systems department, ISL developed a detailed description of the existing terminal infrastructure of selected regions, regular train services, the most important forwarders, and the presence of the most important container shipping companies. Furthermore, through the partner CTS, costs for regular train services to and from Antwerp were broadly estimated.
