Invited by the German Committee for Sustainability Research and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), experts from practice, research and science from the fields port management, ship operations and environmental research met in Hamburg on 12./13. March 2019 for an interdisciplinary forum on „Climate shipping pollution: piecemeal regulation for different objectives? Health, climate, environmental and socioeconomic implications and challenges for green shipping propulsion”.
Even though the capacity growth of the world merchant fleet was only 2.6 % in 2018 – the smallest increase during the last 15 years, freight rates and ship prices have come down to very low levels.
