ISL at the Norwegian-German Business Summit: Focus on green maritime solutions

On the occasion of H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway's visit to Germany, Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen, Head of ISL's Maritime Hydrogen Research division, had the honour of being invited to a reception at Hamburg City Hall and a high-level "Norwegian-German Business Summit" at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

During the opening ceremony, Crown Prince Haakon emphasised the strong partnership between Norway and Germany, with particular reference to the strong historical ties between Norway and northern Germany. Norway was also represented at the summit by the Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre and the Minister of Energy Terje Aasland.

The Business Summit featured a variety of interesting panel discussions with industry leaders and political decision-makers, focussing on the green industrial transition and sustainable maritime solutions. Norwegian and German companies and institutions had the opportunity to make new contacts, explore business as well as investment potential and deepen existing partnerships. ISL was particularly involved in the discussions on sustainable concepts in the maritime sector, such as the defossilisation of shipping.

Overall, the event emphasised the commitment of both nations to work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It highlighted their collective efforts to tackle the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities of the green industrial transition.
