IW-NET showcases potentials of inland waterway transport for urban distribution

On 31 August 2023, the EU project IW-NET coordinated by ISL hosted its “Interconnectivity Demonstration Event” at Brussels Construction Consolidation Centre (BCCC) in Brussels, Belgium. This event featured a real-life demonstration showcasing IW-NET full track and trace solutions on goods delivered by inland vessel, unloaded, and efficiently processed for further urban transportation via cargo-bikes. This innovative means of intermodal logistics opens up interesting new possibilities for the urban last mile.

Moreover, Arne Gehlhaar from ISL presented the innovative Port Call Digitalisation and Shore Power Solutions which were developed by ISL during the IW-NET project. These new solutions offer considerable potentials for optimized inland waterway transport throughout Europe.
