Offshore Renewable Energy Sustainability Alliance (ORESA) started

The ORESA project kick-off event took place in The Hague in June 2025, where representatives of all 12 project partners with participation of ISL laid the groundwork for successful work in the project, which runs until June 2028 and is co-funded by the European funding program Interreg North-West Europe.

Sustainability and profitability do not have to be mutually exclusive; combining them nevertheless presents a challenge that the ORESA research project will cover by addressing four sustainability topics identified as knowledge gaps and challenges:

  • Life cycle assessment and the circular economy
  • Linking profitability and environmental sustainability
  • Nature-integrative design
  • Sustainability policy

The project aims to develop an acceleration strategy that addresses these four topics to support innovators in meeting the growing demand for sustainable development.

The strategy will be piloted and validated for 25 SMEs in the form of the ORESA accelerator. For this purpose, a national hub will be established in each of the five participating countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and France. Five selected SMEs per hub will be trained by trainers from the consortium partners in accordance with the strategy over several iterations. Experiences from each iteration will be incorporated into the optimization of the strategy.

In addition to strategy development, the diversity and expertise of the partners will be leveraged to raise awareness of sustainable development in the offshore sector through 30 activities (e.g., intensive courses, training sessions, employee exchange programs, and videos). Furthermore, by addressing a broad target group, the aim is to attract new employees to the sector.

ISL will collaborate with all project partners in developing the strategy and training, as well as the associated communication activities. Together with its partners WAB and Stiftung Offshore Wind (SOW), ISL will design the German ORESA Hub and participate in its operation. By developing innovative methods, ISL will also support training and transfer activities for existing and future workforces.
