Science goes Public! – Talk by Prof. Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen

Science Goes Public! is a series of events in which scientists present their research to a broad audience in a relaxed atmosphere, such as pubs or bars. The aim is to communicate scientific topics in a way that is easy to understand and in direct dialogue with interested parties.

As part of this series, Prof. Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen from the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) will speak on the topic of “Ammonia, methanol, LNG, hydrogen, nuclear power, wind – what will power my ship in the future?” The starting point is the fact that around 62,000 ships worldwide are predominantly powered by fossil fuels, while the International Maritime Organization is calling for climate neutrality by 2050. In his presentation, Prof. Meyer-Larsen will introduce various alternative propulsion and energy sources and discuss their opportunities and limitations for shipping in the future.

Date: 30 October 2025
Start: 8:30 p.m.
Location: Cafe de Fiets (Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße 155, 27568 Bremerhaven)
