SUMO4Rail – Subsidence Monitoring for Railway Tracks

The SUMO4Rail project is funded by the European Space Agency (esa) and has a duration from 01.12.2019 to 31.12.2020.

The project aims to investigate and evaluate the data of the German Ground Motion Service (BBD) of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), which with the help of high precision radar satellites detects ground motions/subsidences of a few millimeters per year, in areas of rail infrastructure and to further develop them according to the use case.

An important part of the migration of the BBD’s basic data to an applicable system is the requirements analysis. In this process, the usability, the design and the operational added value of a possible SUMO4Rail system for infrastructure operators are determined and specified with the participation of ISL. Based on the requirements, a demonstrator will be developed. The main task of ISL is to validate the demonstrator with respect to user requirements.

Project partners are GAF AG, Munich and the German Center for Rail Transport Research (DZSF) at the German Federal Railway Authority.
