North Sea Conference 2025 – Day 2 in Oldenburg

ISL joined the North Sea Conference on 25 June in Oldenburg, participating in the second day of this three-day event, which aimed to reinforce cooperation in the region and mobilize all stakeholders in addressing current and future challenges across the North Sea Region.

The morning included a plenary with updates from across the North Sea Region, featuring inputs from regional projects, institutions, and networks.
In the afternoon, ISL joined the Algae-Based Desalination of Seawater study visit, which explored innovative algae-based approaches to seawater desalination, with potential applications in drinking water and hydrogen production.

During the evening programme, Marija Jovic Mihanovic, PhD from ISL, together with project partners Joshua Dauda  and Danah Kolstee  from the New Energy Coalition , and Janna Köhler  from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation  in Bremen, presented the North Sea Hydrogen Valley Ports  project. The project supports the development of concrete hydrogen roadmaps for the ports of Brest, Esbjerg, Bremen, and Den Helder, as a foundation for realising a maritime Hydrogen Valley in the North Sea Region.

Carsten Westerholt  from the Lower Saxony Ministry for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development and Chairman of the German Committee for the NSR-Interreg-Programme visited our stand together with our colleague Dr. Holger Kramer, Head of Maritime Economics.
