ORESA

Offshore Renewable Energy Sustainability Alliance

Sustainability and profitability are often seen as conflicting values in the offshore wind sector, which poses a challenge for the adoption of sustainable practices.

Several EU strategies link the renewable energy mix to biodiversity and sustainability challenges. Together with market initiatives to minimise environmental impacts, this makes sustainability crucial for a future-proof economy.

ORESA is addressing this challenge with a consortium of 12 industry, government and research partners from 5 NWE countries.

An acceleration strategy is being developed around the following four key topics and will be piloted and validated in five national hubs:

  • Life cycle analysis and circular economy
  • Linking profitability and environmental sustainability
  • Nature-inclusive design
  • Sustainability policy

Various accompanying activities are intended to raise awareness of sustainable development in the offshore sector and attract new specialists to the sector.

Project objective:

  • Promoting profitable sustainability in the offshore wind energy sector
  • Develop an acceleration strategy to support innovators to address the growing demand for sustainable development
  • Piloting the sustainability accelerator for 25 SMEs to foster their competitive innovation capacity
  • Development and implementation of 30 activities (deep-dives, trainings, employee exchanges and videos) to raise awareness, engage stakeholders and future employees on offshore sustainability to achieve lasting change.
