Germany's first EU-funded Hydrogen Valley launched in Bremen – ISL Technical Coordinator
A major success for Bremen: The EU is funding the "H2B:IMPACT" project with nine million euros to establish a so-called "Hydrogen Valley" in the federal state of Bremen – a model region in which hydrogen is used across the entire value chain. With this, Bremen becomes the first EU-funded region of this kind in Germany. In that way, Bremen joins an exclusive circle of model regions in Europe. The key to success was above all the holistic approach: the project application covers the entire hydrogen value chain and connects applications in industry, ports and mobility with a clear implementation strategy.
The EU funding is more than just financial support. It serves as a quality seal and strengthens Bremen's role as an important location for the hydrogen economy. The goal is to transition the developed applications into regular operation in the long term and to make them available as a model for other regions. A total of 27 partners from Bremen, Germany and other EU countries will benefit from the funding. The project will run over five years. Initial applications are to be implemented step by step in the coming years. The project is led by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation, supported among others by the Bremen Institute for Shipping Economics and Logistics, acting as technical coordinator and the New Energy Coalition from Groningen, as advisory body.
„The Clean Hydrogen Partnership is proud to support the flagship Hydrogen Valley H2B:IMPACT in the federal state of Bremen, as the first Hydrogen Valley supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership in Germany. With an expected 25 MW of hydrogen production capacity supplying a wide range of offtakers in the energy, transport, and industry sectors, the project is coordinated by the federal state of Bremen. Supported by a strong international consortium, the project is set to drive innovation, attract investment, and strengthen industrial competitiveness. H2B:IMPACT is a decisive step toward a scalable European hydrogen economy and a blueprint for replication across Europe“, said Valérie Bouillon-Delporte, Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.
In this most interesting project, ISL will take over the role of the Technical Coordinator, leading a number of workpackages and supporting the project consortium in achieving the challenging project goals.
