ISL presents expertise at the 13th Marlog Conference and highlights role of seaports in greener maritime transport chains

The 13th edition of Marlog took place in Alexandria, Egypt, from March 3rd to 5th, 2024, where the ISL was represented with a contribution for the fifth time.

Organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the three-day scientific conference comprised 14 partially parallel sessions and offered a total of 58 presentations on various topics within the framework of the theme "Towards Smart Green Blue Infrastructure".

The opening event of the conference was attended by high-ranking personalities, including Egyptian Transport Minister H.E. Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir and the Governor of Alexandria Region H.E. Major-General Mohamed Taher Elsherief and also attracted over 600 delegates.

In his lecture “Seaports’ Contribution Towards Sustainable Development - Potentials and Challenges” Prof. Dr. Lemper from ISL explained how seaports can make a significant contribution to sustainable development through targeted measures and strategies.

As an additional side event, the annual general meeting of the Global Shipping Think Tank Alliance took place under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Lemper. In addition to the formal topics, 14 specialist lectures were also held, including a contribution by Patrick Specht from ISL on the topic "Digitalization of Port Call Procedures for Inland Vessels in Seaports: Concepts and Insights from a European Research Initiative".

Overall, the ISL looks back on three very informative and stimulating days, characterized by many enriching conversations and valuable discussions.
