ISL at the Zero Emission Shipping Symposium 2025
On 25 June 2025, key players from the maritime industry gathered in Hamburg for the seventh Zero Emission Shipping Symposium, hosted once again by NOW GmbH in cooperation with the Maritime Platform.
This year’s symposium focused on market initiatives for climate neutrality in maritime transport chains, green shipping corridors, and technological project implementations demonstrating climate-friendly propulsion systems and fuels in commercial, real-world maritime applications. ISL’s Managing Director, Prof Dr Nils Meyer-Larsen, represented ISL at this high-level event.
In his presentation, Prof Meyer-Larsen introduced the MariSynFuel project, which aims to establish a production facility for green e-methanol as a marine fuel in Bremerhaven. He also provided an overview of the current landscape regarding alternative marine fuels – a complex field marked by ambiguous signals, in his assessment. A subsequent panel discussion delved further into the opportunities and challenges of climate-friendly shipping. The numerous positive responses from participants reflected the all-day event’s resounding success.
