ISL presents in Scottish-North German webinar series

Last week, the sixth webinar in the Scotland-Northern Germany series of hydrogen webinars looked at new and potential Scottish and German projects with a transnational dimension. It was organised by the North Sea Hydrogen Ports and Maritime Community (NS HyMaP).

ISL Managing Director Prof. Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen presented H2B:IMPACT, Germany’s first EU funded Hydrogen Valley which is currently set up in the German Federal State of Bremen. The project has attracted a grant of €9 million from the EU Clean Hydrogen Partnership (CHP) and aims to integrate renewable hydrogen production, distribution, and use across industrial sectors like mobility, ports, construction, and logistics. The project consortium consists of 27 partners from all over Europe, including Scottish partners involved in replication activities.

Furthermore, Christoph Tewis from Tewis Projektmanagement GmbH presented the AquaPrimus project, which aims to advance offshore hydrogen production and to serve as a development and demonstration platform for research institutions and companies. Technological innovations in offshore hydrogen production are tested and developed further under real conditions. In addition, Martyn Tulloch from the Net Zero Technology Centre outlined the Energy Hubs project. An Energy Hub is a specific geographic location which will host all facilities necessary for the large-scale production of hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives such as e-fuels. Martin McCormack from ETZ finally presented the Green Hydrogen Testing and Demonstration Facilities due to open in Aberdeen in early 2027. It is common understanding that the emerging hydrogen market in Europe presents a huge export opportunity for Scotland, and that there is considerable potential in joint activities between Scotland and Germany.
