TRUSTEE

futuRe‑proof efficienT and sUStainable dEployment of ZEWT

The TRUSTEE project supports the transition towards zero-emission European waterborne transport (ZEWT) by 2050. It is implemented under the Horizon Europe programme by an international consortium comprising research institutions, industry partners, and policymaking organizations.

TRUSTEE develops evidence-based future scenarios for 2030 and 2050 and identifies promising use cases for Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT). The project establishes a multidimensional assessment framework to analyse the environmental, social, and financial aspects of different technologies and system solutions while fostering exchange and collaboration among stakeholders.

In addition, the project aims to generate accessible recommendations and a shared knowledge base to better support policymakers, industry, and other stakeholders in implementing zero-emission shipping.

Project objective:

  • Development and validation of future Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) ecosystems for 2030 and 2050 through foresight scenario analysis.
  • Identification and validation of the most promising ZEWT use cases for the target horizons of 2030 and 2050.
  • Establishment of a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral evaluation framework.
  • Support of zero-emission objectives within the waterborne transport sector.
  • Identification of systemic and sector-specific barriers to achieving ZEWT and derivation of actionable recommendations.
  • Creation of a shared knowledge base for all relevant stakeholders.
