Intelligent traffic counting in port-hinterland lorry traffic
In order to support those responsible for the infrastructure planning of lorry traffic in the port and port hinterland, ISL developed the prototype of a solution as part of a feasibility study, with the help of which the volume of lorry traffic in particular can be determined. The challenge here was to be able to differentiate and count different types of lorries.
For this purpose, an AI model was trained on different vehicle types and integrated into a counting and evaluation software that was also developed. The practical suitability of the approach was demonstrated on an AI-capable microcomputer in battery-powered use together with a camera.
A later solution based on the prototype would be aimed at the infrastructure management of harbours and public administration, for example. Thanks to more cost-effective counting, it would enable more precise analyses, which in turn would lead to more targeted planning and control options.
