ISL Maritime Conference 2024 & 70th anniversary of the institute
Last Wednesday, September 18, 2024, ISL once again hosted the Maritime Conference. This year with the special feature that the 70th anniversary of the institute was celebrated after the conference. The day began at the Digital Hub Industry (DHI) with the Maritime Conference and ended in the evening at ISL with the anniversary celebration.
The theme of this year's Maritime Conference was "Maritime Logistics in Transition: On Course for the Future" and began with a welcoming speech by ISL's two managing directors, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Lemper and Prof. Dr. Frank Arendt. Lennart Albrecht then moderated the event (DVZ, Deutsche Verkehrszeitung) with a flair for asking the right questions.
The first presentation was given by Thorsten Friedrich (ISL) and Joelina Kremp (ISL), who provided revealing insights into the transition from analog to digital technologies and talked about how maritime market information has changed over the last 70 years. Their presentation was complemented by a contribution from Rob Harrison (PSA) and Arno Colla (PSA), who joined us live from Antwerp.
Following this, ISL colleagues Andreas Hübscher, Flora Gulyás and Jakob Ovens as well as Manfred Lebmeier (HPA) provided interesting insights into how emissions can be reduced at sea. They looked at sailing ships, coal, heavy oil and modern technologies.
After a short coffee and cake break, Patrick Specht (ISL) and Theresa Klein (Bundesverband Öffentlicher Binnenhäfen e. V.) gave an exciting forecast on autonomous shipping.
The conference ended with an inspiring panel discussion on the topic "Where is the journey going?", chaired by Lennart Albrecht, in which Andreas Hübscher, Manfred Lebmeier, Thorsten Friedrich, Theresa Klein and Patrick Specht took part and answered questions from the moderator and the audience.
Following the conference, employees, business partners and friends of the institute gathered to celebrate ISL's 70th anniversary. Among the guests, we were delighted to welcome the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science, Kathrin Moosdorf, and the State Councillor Kai Stührenberg, and thank them warmly for their kind words of greeting on the occasion of our anniversary. We were also delighted to receive a video greeting from the Maritime Coordinator Dieter Janecek.
The anniversary celebration offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with friends, colleagues and external partners of the institute in a cozy atmosphere and to end the evening with food and drinks.
We would like to thank all participants, contributors and guests who helped to make these two events a complete success. We are delighted to conclude the Maritime Conference and the 70th anniversary celebrations and look forward to the future with excitement.
