Marlog 2025: How AI is revolutionizing the maritime industry

From 23 to 25 February 2025, the 14th Marlog Conference took place in Alexandria, Egypt, in which Flóra Gulyás participated on behalf of ISL. The conference focussed on the question of how artificial intelligence can change the maritime industry. Topics included port operations management, safety issues, environmental sustainability and regulations. Speakers from leading seaports such as Antwerp, Rotterdam, Rome and Valencia demonstrated practical applications of AI in the maritime industry.

Flóra Gulyás was represented as a speaker and successfully presented her contribution on the topic: ‘Can AI address the shortcomings of port emission inventories?’. The presentation and the full study will soon be published on the Marlog website or can be sent on request.

During the conference, there was an opportunity to visit the Arab Academy of Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport and get an impression of the simulators and laboratories of the College of Engineering & Technology. Opportunities for potential cooperation were also discussed.

The conference ended with a visit to Cairo, where the guests were guided by Ms. Amira Mamdouh to the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the recently opened Grand Egyptian Museum.
