DVWG Forum 2024: ISL discusses future shipping fuels
The German Society for Transport Research (DVWG), of which ISL is a member, sees itself as a neutral platform for close cooperation between researchers, ministries, companies, and politics, thus creating a unique platform for holistic solutions.
ISL‘s competence area manager Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen took part in this year's DVWG Forum, which took place in Berlin at the beginning of December, 2024. This year, focus areas were shipping, ports and waterways, rail transport, and road transport. As part of a workshop on future bunker fuels for shipping, the ISL expert gave a lecture and took part in the subsequent panel discussion. The topics discussed included different options for alternative bunker fuels, related opportunities and risks, and questions about the production of the fuels. It was agreed that many important questions in these areas still need to be investigated in order to sustainably defossilize the shipping industry.
Particularly pleasing was the high number of young participants in the event – a clear sign that the future’s mobility is already in the best hands today.
