ISL was part of the Hydrogen Technology Expo 2024
On 23 and 24 October 2024, Dr Nils-Meyer Larsen and Friederike Woltmann from ISL attended the Hydrogen Technology Expo (HTE) in Hamburg. The HTE is considered Europe's largest trade fair in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry.
Leading players from industry, science and politics meet at the trade fair to discuss the latest developments in the field of hydrogen and solutions for a more sustainable future.
Hydrogen plays a particularly decisive role in the global defossilisation of mobility and industry in sectors in which electrification poses a particularly great challenge. These include shipping and aviation. Here, the use of hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives represents a promising prospect for shipping and harbour logistics.
Innovative approaches to integrating hydrogen into existing supply chains were presented at the Expo, with a particular focus on its role as a sustainable source of propulsion for ships and its application in port logistics.
ISL was represented at the joint stand of the ‘Bremen, Bremerhaven - Home of Innovation’ association, where it presented the current research projects SeaEly on direct seawater electrolysis, North Sea Hydrogen Valley Ports to support European ports in developing a hydrogen economy and MariSynFuel on green methanol as a marine fuel.
Our colleagues held numerous interesting discussions with experts and partners from various sectors at the HTE. In particular, the challenges and opportunities of hydrogen utilisation in the maritime industry were discussed.
Participation in the HTE has once again made it clear that the path to sustainable shipping is significantly influenced by innovative hydrogen technologies.
ISL is looking forward to working with its partners to further research these technologies and bring them to market maturity.
